The bright colors and soft textures of Elinor Saragoussi's work is a sweet invitation to frolic in the same space as a favored childhood story. Yet, like those fables and tales, there are underlying themes lurking, waiting to be taken in by an astute observer.

Just Beyond is based on a small ink painting from 2021 that has been translated into a "felt painting". The quaint, vibrant characters and landscapes give way to a slightly off-kilter sense of whimsy. Buck-toothed beings and disembodied eyes tangle among waves of flora to create an emotional environment that's tense and somewhat disconcerting. Saragoussi reveals, “Just Beyond is my most detailed felt piece to date and acted as a meditation over many months, guiding me through a difficult life transition."

Originally from Denver, CO, Elinor Saragoussi is currently based in Winterville, GA. She works with a variety of mediums, including felt, set design/installation and illustration to create fantastical, colorful works. Eli occasionally teaches workshops, plays bass in a rock n' roll band named Blunt Bangs, and works for a small local construction company called Levelish.
