The Noisy Woods by Peter Loose - 500 piece jigsaw puzzle
Peter Loose is a self-taught artist who's known for his one-of-a-kind bird houses and animal shaped dulcimers - as well as his signature bright and brash paintings featuring unconventional palettes and saturated, vivid, dot-filled surfaces. Loose arrived in Athens, GA in 1987 to begin working at the Athens Sandy Creek Nature Center. Drawing on his time as a naturalist, Peter's work reflects his deep love of animals and the natural world. Most depicted on repurposed, found objects like roofing shingles, old canvas, window screens, and discarded wooden boards.
In “The Noisy Woods” Loose was inspired while watching a pair of pileated woodpeckers build their nest in a tall dead pine saying, “the sounds of knocking and chipping were loud as were the sounds other birds and zooming insects.” Staying true to his connection with nature, Loose captures the vibrant energy of wildlife, seamlessly translating the rhythm of the woods into his art.
“The Noisy Woods” is in the collection of Paul Schrantz (Peter’s Father). Peter’s work can also be found in the permanent collection of Savannah, Georgia’s Telfair Art Museum and in Baltimore’s American Visionary Art Museum. His work has been featured at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville, GA, and the Folk Art Park in Atlanta, alongside some of the region's most well-known, self-taught artists. Loose's pieces have also found homes in private collections across the country, particularly among folk art enthusiasts who are drawn to his whimsical style. In addition to his paintings, Loose and his wife Sandy Loose-Schrantz, have written and illustrated two children's books. "Bongo is a Happy Dog" and "Bongo Has Many Friends" following Bongo, a stray the Loose family rescued, as he explores the universe.
